Failure is simply a cost you have to pay (2)

Oh crumbs. How do you feel when stuff doesn’t work? Disappointed. Cross. Anxious. Devastated. Oh yes, me TOO! And sheesh isn’t it hard to get on with other stuff when you’re cranky for getting something SO wrong?!

If you find it hard to get over a stuff-up, a good way to cast aside the doomy and gloomy is to start acting like a scientist! Here’s how:

1. Think of every new business project you do as an experiment.

2. Get happy with the fact that none of us know for sure whether something new is going to work.We just need to give it a go and see what happens.

3. If something does goes wrong, write down what didn’t work. Yes! Write it down – the act of writing helps our subconscious brains analyse what happened AND, a bit like a problem shared is a problem halved, it makes us feel better about it too!

3. Write down what you learned.

4. Decide what you are going to do differently next time.

5. Be kind to yourself: the experiment ‘failed’ not you.

6. Eat chocolate.

OK, the last one is not very laboratory. But I’ve done a LOT of experiments and it always works!

What do YOU do when things go pear-shaped?!
