A good system shortens the road to the

Evernote tips that save me time and keep me organised!

Do you use Evernote? I use it for everything. It saves me time and keeps me organised. A good thing. YES?!

If you don’t know Evernote it’s like a digital notebook scrapbook-y thing which is FAB for storing information. [Evernote is free and they publish a great getting started guide]

I use it for both home (recipes, travel stuff, ideas for kids, parenting info, funny stuff…) and work (articles I like, blog ideas, projects to think about, random ideas etc…) and I really don’t know how I’d manage without it.

I know I don’t use Evernote as well as I could. I’m lazy about reading instructions so rarely get the beyond the basics of any gadget or technology. But I’m fine with that. I like to keep things really simple and sometimes I find remembering all the clever hacks and tricks of an app or program just too hard. You TOO?!

So here’s how I use Evernote. No clever tips, just simple techniques which save me heaps of time and keep me organised!

1. First up, I have lots of notebooks in Evernote. I did try culling them but, really, one of the lovely things about evernote is that you CAN have endless notebooks! I have one for every topic and it’s totally manageable.

2. I have a READ notebook. I get lots of emails that I want to read later (I’m some kinda newsletter freak) so I send them straight to Evernote. That way my inbox stays nice and clean, and when I have got a few minutes, I  can just hop into evernote and all my reading is in one place. Sending emails to evernote is simps. Just pop your Evernote email address in your contacts and then forward away!

3. I use Evernote to store all my random thoughts and ideas.  I use an app called Capito. It’s super clever. It’s like a little notepad and when you’re done writing it sends your note automatically to the email address you preset. I preset mine to send straight to Evernote (you can set it up to send it to your email inbox, which I did at first, but then you just end up with an inbox full of your notes. Ugh). You can of course do notes straight into the Evernote app but I like the simplicity of Capito – mainly ‘cos there’s nothing to distract me from writing my note!

4. I send all my notes and reading through to my ‘default’ notebook in Evernote. You can do clever stuff with changing the email header so your email/note goes straight into the right notebook. I’ve had mixed success with that so now I don’t bother. Anyway I quite like sorting through my ‘default’ notebook – see below

5. I clean up my ‘default’ notebook every couple of days. It’s super easy to move the notes into their new or correct notebook! It takes no time to do this and I like to look through the notes before I re file them, so this is a quick and FUN task.

6. If I happen to take notes on paper I take a photo of them and pop them in Evernote. You can take photos from inside the Evernote app which is very clever, but mostly I forget to do it that way. Anyhoo, it’s dead simple to upload a photo into Evernote so not a drama.

7. I keep a Smile File notebook in Evernote. If you do nothing else, do THIS!

8. I keep a Swipe File notebook in Evernote which is super-useful!

9. I’ve thought about keeping my 100 day journal in Evernote. I haven’t so far ‘cos I like to handwrite it. But I might give it a go when I start my next 100 days.

10.  I use webclipper to keep useful stuff I come across when I’m wandering around the internet. It’s simps to use. Maybe too simple as I do have a LOT of stuff saved…..

11. I don’t bother tagging my notes. It’s super-easy just to use the search function and I always seem to find everything.

12. I have a ‘Technical’ notebook where I keep all the notes for how to do techie things. This has been massively useful. Makes sorting a techie problem very quick!

13. I keep copies of useful home stuff in Evernote – like receipts and warranties. This is the kinda stuff I never used to be able to find and now it’s easy. Hurrah!

So that’s me and Evernote. Do you use Evernote? What are your Evernote tips?!

    Hi,

I just wanted to say how much I’ve been loving Evernote and love the tip regarding emails to read. That will make things a bit easier to get through.

    Thanks so much.

    Kind regards,
    Ruth

Oh I love the idea of sending all the newsletters that come though to me email over to evernote. My inbox always gets so messy with too many flagged emails that I don’t have time to read in the moment but don’t want to delete. Great tips!

I love Evernote! I use it to keep all my ideas and thoughts in one place so they’re not swirling around in my head. I also have my shopping list in it.

    Cheers,
    Lynda.

Loved the tips. I used Evernote religiously for a lot of things but these tips are brilliant and super practical especially the emailing of stuff to the Evernote email address. Love it, have set it up and using it. Fab stuff.
