I love this.

Because I have four children and run a business I’m often asked how I find the time and the energy to fit everything in. I run my business in my sweet spot. It’s as simple as that.

What you might think something is missing from this diagram is the making money part of having a business. After all it’s great to work on something that gives you energy, fun and fulfillment but will it pay the bills?

Yes it will!

I believe that when you enjoy doing what you do, are good at it and do it for a bigger purpose then the making money part will follow. Not automatically and not immediately, but if you put your mind to it you can devise a way to make it work for you financially.

If you’re struggling with this part, talk about it. Ask your friends and family, talk to other business owners, listen to your customers, hire a coach, or read about how other businesses have done it.

You might need to experiment a bit. Lots of money models (or recipes as I call them) don’t work at the beginning but they evolve into something that does.

And I think it’s useful to keep in mind that if what you’re doing is truly useful to someone then they must value it. If they value it they’ll be prepared to pay for it. If they’re not prepared to pay for it then my guess is that you’ve not yet quite found your “bigger purpose” . You’ve found something that’s quite fun for users but doesn’t serve them enough to turn them into fee paying customers.

Hmm, If that sounds like you, don’t panic – it’s not the end of the world. It could be that you just need to educate your customers a little more so that they understand how they are being served.

If you need some help with the money model part send us your question or details and let’s see if we can point you in the right direction.
