ask better questions

Hello. December! The year is almost over! Goodness, how did that happen?!

Have you got time to do a little thinking about the year that’s almost been?! Oh good. Well here’s a FAB little thing to do. Doesn’t take long and it will tell you heaps.

It’s a question and you just need to answer it. Totes simple. It’s this:

best customer

Got any thoughts? Your answer will kinda depend on how you define ‘best’. There are lots of different bests and I like to think about them ALL. You too? Grab a coffee and a pen and paper then and do this. Write down the name of the customer this year who:

1. Was the nicest
2. Placed the biggest single order
3. Made the most repeat sales
4. Spent the most with you
5. Referred the most new customers to you
6. Gave you the BEST idea
7. Earned you the most profit

You’ll probably need to hunt through your records to find some of this info (biggest order, biggest spend, most repeats, most profit). I know that’s a bit of a groan. But do it. You’ll be so surprised at what you find out and it will give you some FAB ideas for next year.

Which one of your BEST customers is the best?

Totally up to you. If the same name crops up a few times she’s probably your best customer. Otherwise you can pick different BESTS for different purposes

Now what?!

1. Thank your best customer!

It’s lovely to say ‘thank you’ to your best customer. Give them a teeny weeny gift maybe. Nothing flash. They’ve been super helpful to you. And it doesn’t take much to make them feel special in return.

2. Find more customers like your BEST customer!

Indeed! How FAB would it be to have more customers like your BEST customer?!

So:

1. Decide which BEST customer you would like more of (so which of the numbers 1-7 was your bestest BEST)

2. Find out a bit about your winner. How old is she? Where does she live? How did she find out about you? Is she a Mum? What magazine does she read? What car does she drive? Where does she buy her clothes? etc. Write all this stuff down.

3. Now you know some characteristics of your winner, think about WHERE you can find more people like her.

4. And when you’ve got some thoughts about where they are, think about how you can let them that you EXIST!

5. Got some ideas? YAY! Make them the first thing you do in 2014!

And that’s *it*.

Did you do it?

Were you surprised who your best customer was?!
